sam vicary a.k.a hunrosa (meaning �to dream�) is an electronic music producer capturing the wild organic senses of his childhood and anchoring it with a darker 2am undercurrent. based in manchester, he is principally a bassist and currently a member of the cinematic orchestra, paper tiger and the dominic j marshall trio, as well as performing with manu delago, imogen heap, matthew halsall, anil sebastian and stuart macallum. his latest offering �ransome� is a heavily rhythmic journey, full of textured hand percussion and soaring strings, accompanied by the beautifully melodic vocals of alice higgins drifting overhead. the clap clap remix sees the black acre mainstay exploring expansive territories, polyrhythmic hand percussion and textured electronica perfectly intertwine, drenched in dub ambience, heightened by scattered arpeggios and swirling synths. the music is inspired by a coastal upbringing, represented in the music via field recordings, as well as being aided by visual stimulus throughout the writing process.

the water surely is greener on the other side. susans 5th release marks perhaps the biggest step towards the so-called life of susan. speed and depth transform into ritualistic whistles, strange questions may be asked, but the summery seasons will blossom whilst binge eating kebabs with that wild seasoning. susan wont create her own energy drink, but the likes of dj swagger, axefield, dj windows xp and joakim hellgren sure have spiced up the spectrum of reason on this one.

�courtrai moderne: definite definitivos� is the very first full vinyl release of kortrijk�s own punk heroes: an anthology of their best songs. it was sheer enthousiasm when punk-craze hit kortrijk in the late seventies. frank holvoet didn�t really know how to handle a guitar but that didn�t really matter: he gathered drummer rik masselis (see also the p.i.g.z.), peter coppens and local wild boy lucien callewaert: definitivos were portuguese cigarettes and also the name of the band.

moby has released a new single and video for �like a motherless child,� from his forthcoming album everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt. featuring la-based soulstress raquel rodriguez, �like a motherless child� is a re-work of the well-known spiritual, with its origins in the slavery of the american south. the track describes the void left when one feels separated from a parent, higher power or similar guiding force. over the years this powerful song has been reinterpreted by the likes of odetta, lena horne, mahalia jackson and van morrison. the album is a glowing tapestry exploring spirituality, individuality and the brokenness of humanity and finds him returning to his orchestral, soul, trip-hop and gospel roots.

frame of mind is back with a re-issue of another unknown gem from the early 90 s. uk production team dave campbell and viv beeton are most known for their uk techno, rave and bleep classics as ubik. it is under the alias of timenet they released an obscure white label in limited quantities in 1992. this untitled and one-off 3-tracker remained fairly unknown up until today. it shows quite a different side of their stunning production talents. dishwasher is a rough drum machine work out topped with a wild bleepy sh101 synthline a la mr fingers. dx moods is a spaced out techno tune combining mysterious pads and crazy dx-100 programming. with on the move the uk pioneers come closest to their ubik sound: mad uk techno with a hint of rave. a previously unreleased and stripped down version of this track is included as well.

for her third outing on the german label jahmoni, marcelle is as inventive and unpredictable as ever. the four tracks on the wittily titled psalm tree ep go from wild techno to abstract dub, and all bear that undefinable marcelle touch of freedom and imagination, which sets the dj/producer so apart from almost all of her younger peers. the ever-travelling dutch lady, who was one of the highlights of this year s nyege nyege music festival in uganda, toys with musical styles and expectations, both live and in the studio she has always deejayed more or less like a musician. this was amongst others recognised by faust founder member hans-joachim irmler, who between 2008 and 2014 released 4 marcelle albums on his klangbad label.

a wild solo project from rita lee � done after the breakup of os mutantes, and offered up almost as some sort of commentary on mainstream rock in the 70s! there�s a much more straightforward approach to the music here � a sometimes-glammy sound that�s echoed by the band�s space-style costumes and makeup � but there�s also some weirdly old-style rock instrumentation too, almost like the way that an artist like gary glitter could fold the 50s and 70s together in his music, and come across making something very weird and new. here, the keyboards are almost stronger than the guitars � and rita herself plays moog, melotron, organ, and piano � on titles that include -tem uma cidade-, -menino bonito-, -mame natureza-, and -eclipse do cometa-.
